Marian Consecration

What is Total Consecration to Jesus through Mary?

Consecration means entrustment, and in Marian Consecration we entrust our lives for a sacred purpose.

What is that purpose?  To give ourselves completely to Jesus Christ.  Mary did this, and she most fully magnified the Lord.  So we simply want to follow her, because she did it so beautifully.

And, in this way, Mary was humble and joyfully radiant in Christ!

The basic premise of Total Consecration to Mary was set forth by St. Louis Marie de Montfort.  His inspiration from the Holy Spirit was simply that Jesus came into the world through Mary and that for us to always be assured of being close to Jesus, even closer than ever before, we should go through Mary.

Consecration to Jesus through Mary according to the method of St. Louis de Montfort is powerful!  With the loving guidance of Our Holy Mother, we grow in holiness, increase in faith, and find ever deeper ways to love.  There is a freedom in knowing Our Lady has us under her loving mantle, and in the crossings of her arms!

Consecration consists  of a 33-day period of prayerful preparation followed by the actual act of consecration itself

33 day preparation The 33-day preparation includes a preliminary period of twelve days during which we endeavor “to free ourselves from the spirit of the world.” This initial 12 days is followed by a second period of three weeks. The first of these three weeks is devoted to the knowledge of ourselves, the second to that of the Blessed Virgin and the third to that of Jesus Christ.

Consecration The object of this consecration is to cast off the spirit of the world, so that we can acquire fully the spirit of Jesus Christ through the Blessed Virgin. Hence the practices suggested by St. Louis De Montfort: renouncement of the world and knowledge of self, of the Blessed Virgin and of Jesus Christ.

The consecration preparation prayers of 33 days end on a feast day of Our Lady. It is a joyful way to celebrate Mary and our entrustment to her on her special day!  Each year, the consecration can be renewed, which allows its beautiful prayers and Scripture readings to resonate more deeply as time goes on, and life experiences change and teach us.
